Blood, Guts, and Cute Girls: The Best Zombie Anime

For years, the anime zombie genre has dominated. While many people feel that westernized zombie shows/films are often too generic or copy/paste, the zombie genre in Japan is actually really unique, with many fun twists. There are, however, still a few duds in the pile—so we have compiled a list of the best zombie anime out there!

– School-Live!

From first glance, this anime doesn’t look like a zombie anime at all. It looks like a generic slice-of-life, revolving around four high school girls. That, however, is where you’re wrong—School-Live! is actually a great zombie anime. It has the perfect ratio of gore to emotional attachment and is only 12 episodes—which can easily be binged with a few friends if desired. The premise of the show is also fairly unique—but you’ll have to find that out for yourself.

Highschool of the Dead

One of the classic zombie anime from the mid-2000s, high school of the dead has a similar premise to that of School-Live!—the anime centers around multiple high school girls, and, of course, zombies. Similarly to School-Live!, high school of the Dead is a 12-episode series, again making it fairly easy to binge with some friends.  It’s also really well known for having some truly badass anime characters.

New ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay 2’ Image Released

Fans of the Hunger Games franchise can’t wait until November 20th. That’s when the fourth and final movie will release in theatres. As we inch closer and closer to the date, small bits and pieces are slowly being revealed, such as a new image of Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) getting dressed for battle. The image captures the trepidation no doubt being felt by both characters.

In this final installment, Katniss is preparing to lead the districts of Panem in the ultimate uprising against the Capitol and its leader President Snow. Characters will face some tough decisions and situations that promise to make this movie the most emotional of them all. Ricardo Tosto can’t wait to see it unfold. While the third movie, Mockingjay Part 1, was the weakest of them all, much like the third book was criticized as being the weakest of the trilogy, fans and critics are hoping that this one wraps up the story with a bang.

This will also be an emotional movie as it will feature the final on-screen performance of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. See the trailer here.

Is Hollywood Obligated to be Realistic?

Writer Emily Steele brought up the topic of medical inaccuracies portrayed by Hollywood shows and films early this morning, Thursday, May 14, for Herald-Review.com.  Additionally, some inaccuracies foster discrimination toward certain groups of people — especially those with mental health issues.

Should Hollywood be obligated to show only realism?Well, a lot of current technologies used in medicine started out as fiction on small and big screens. For example, the handheld medical scanner was a Star Trek original series invention; as was the medication auto-injector. Other medical-related technologies that people use today that were first seen in Star Trek and other science fiction TV shows and films include handheld touch-screen computers, universal translators and micro-lasers.

Given these facts, what percentage of Hollywood’s portrayals of medical practices should be accurate?

Some experts, critics and fans like Adam believe that Hollywood should do its best to at least portray “current” medical technologies, emergency protocols and information as accurately as possible to prevent TV and film viewers from being confused about what doctors, EMTs, firefighters, police officers, nurses and other medical staff, and normal people can really do when faced with illnesses and emergencies.

After all, online medical databases and CGI make it entirely possible to accurately portray modern medicine.
