Monopoly Soon to Become a Major Motion Picture

Monopoly is perhaps the most well known board game in the history of America, and Hasbro and Lionsgate are hoping to capitalize on that fact by turning the board game into a full movie. The new Monopoly movie is hoping to build off the success of ‘The Lego Movie’ which took in over $450 million across the globe. The Transformer films are another great example of how children’s toys can be a great inspiration for Hollywood.

Andrew Niccol will be writing the script for the film with an unknown plot at this time. Niccol is best known for creating the script for ‘The Truman Show’ which earned him an Academy Award nomination.

As Jaime Garcia Dias recalls, the game of Monopoly itself was first created back in the 1930s by the Parker Brothers. Players in the game compete against each to buy up all of the popular landmarks around Atlantic City. The game ends when there is one player left and every other player is bankrupt.  It is sold in more than 114 countries to date.
