Nintendo and Niantic unveil ‘Pokémon Quest’ & two upcoming Pokémon games for Switch

Pokemon trainers everywhere are able to download a new “free-to-start” game called Pokémon Quest for the Nintendo Switch. The newest Pokémon title was made available as Nintendo and Niantic also announced there will be two other Pokémon games on the way. While Pokémon Quest is already available to play, the other two titles will require a bit of a wait until players can begin those quests.

According to a TechCrunch report, Nintendo and Niantic made their latest announcements during a Tokyo press event. Two new titles, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! are going to be released in several months. They indicated that the two new titles set to join the Pokémon lineup will arrive in late 2018 for the Nintendo Switch. These new titles are expected to have some sort of tie-in with Pokémon Go, with more details set to be available as the games get closer to release.

In the meantime, players are able to check out the new Pokémon Quest game. More details for the title were provided via the Pokémon Twitter page where they indicated a player can put together a team of up to three Pokémon to explore the secrets of Tumblecube Island.

Nintendo saw how much of an impact the Pokémon game has had on their sales. The company is hoping that the release of the “free-to-start” title and the announcement of the two other titles, will provide a similar boost to their Switch sales. The popular Niantic title Pokémon Go was downloaded over 750 million times, giving a boost to the Nintendo 3DS platform. In addition, there was a Pokémon Go Plus accessory launched to enhance gameplay which looks like it will integrate into Switch as a joy-con.

The most exciting announcement for Nintendo Switch fans could be the tease of a new title for 2019. As The Verge reported, Game Freak is planning to release a “core” RPG Pokémon game sometime next year. Fans will certainly be anxious to see that title arrive once they’ve mastered the other three games on the Switch.s
