‘WWE 2K19’ confirmed for release later in 2018

Professional wrestling fans and gamers who are fans of the genre finally have a release date for “WWE 2K19.” On Wednesday, the announcement was made on the “WWE 2K18” Twitter page that the next installment in the popular series of professional wrestling games is set for release later in 2018. There was no official date given, but based on previous releases fans may be able to make an educated guess on when “2K19” will hit online and real-world stores.

There has been an annual WWE video game title from Take-Two each year dating back to 2012. Last year, fans were able to get “WWE 2K18” on October 17th for the Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, and personal computers. A version for the Nintendo Switch was released last December. The game sold over 1.7 million copies between the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. It received an overall “Metascore” of 66 on the Metacritic review site, while users gave it a 6.0 score.

The WWE 2K wrestling video games have combined current roster superstars along with legends. There have also been special modes which allow the player to progress through different story or career modes as a character they create. The 2017 version of the game featured WWE star Seth Rollins on the cover.

Last year, there were special Deluxe and Collector’s edition of the game released as well which included special bonus content such as extra playable characters as well as memorabilia related to certain superstars. For example, a Collector’s Edition included a John Cena action figure, an autographed Cena photo, and part of the ring mat from his match at the “2017 Royal Rumble” pay-per-view.

Each new WWE 2K title includes extensive rosters of playable superstars. With “WWE 2K18,” gamers had access to 29 new superstars who officially debuted within the video game title. This was in addition to many other current and former members of the professional wrestling company. It’s expected that many more new superstars will be unveiled in the weeks and months leading up to “WWE 2K19.” Nintendo Switch owners will hope 2K Sports has addressed the framerate issues that plagued last year’s game on their device.
