It’s that time of year again. With just one week until the New England Patriots take on the Philadelphia Eagles, it’s time to see what the people at EA Sports have to say about the outcome of the game. As it has done for several years in a row now, the latest version of the Madden NFL video game took a crack at predicting who was going to win the Super Bowl.
As has been the case for most of these simulations, the Super Bowl is projected to be pretty close if the Madden version is to be trusted. As Polygon points out, most of the of the games in the Madden series have come down to the last play. This year is no different.
Madden NFL 18 claims that the Patriots are going to beat the Eagles thanks to a last second touchdown with a final score of 24-20. That score is somewhat popular in the annals of the Madden series as it has also projected a team would win 24-20 in two other Super Bowls. The game was sealed for the Pats when their defense knocked down a last second hail mary pass from Nick Foles to Alshon Jeffery.
In the 2015 version of the game, it was a hail mary pass that allowed the winning team to pull victory from the jaws of defeat. That hail mary pass meant that the winning team managed to squeak out a 28-24 victory.
There have been times when Madden has been oddly on track with its predictions. Other times they are quite a ways off what really happened. No video game could have predicted what the Patriots had to do in order to rally to victory against the Atlanta Falcons. As another celebration of the Super Bowl, the digital download of Madden NFL 18 has been deeply discounted.
