It just turned into a big money pit that the DeVos family did not want to see for their own hometown. They fought hard and won the battle to keep the complex out of Grand Rapids.


Early victories like that helped to fuel the desire to move up in politics for Betsy DeVos. She continued to work to build up her influence and power. She did a pretty great job of this and has managed to land herself in the role of Secretary of Education as a result. She is part of the Trump Administration now and is working hard to make charter schools more common in the United States.
